End Citizens United Endorses Representative Greg Casar for Reelection

End Citizens United (ECU), one of the nation’s leading anti-corruption organizations, today endorsed Representative Greg Casar for reelection. Casar, who refuses to take corporate PAC money, is a leader in the fight to end partisan gerrymandering, cracking down on corruption, and making government more accountable to the people. As chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Casar represents a bold new generation of Democratic leadership committed to challenging Washington’s status quo and delivering results for working families.

“Texas Republicans are rigging the system to silence voters and cling to power, but Representative Casar is fighting back to ensure voters choose their leaders––not the other way around,” said ECU President Tiffany Muller. “By rejecting corporate PAC money and standing up to the corruption of partisan gerrymandering, he’s putting people ahead of politics and money. At a time when our rights and freedoms are under attack by the highest levels of government, his voice and leadership is exactly what we need in Congress. We’re proud to endorse Representative Casar and look forward to helping him win.”

“What’s happening in Texas is a direct attack on people’s voices and their right to choose their leaders,” said Representative Greg Casar. “Partisan gerrymandering, voter suppression, and corporate money are corrupting our democracy, but we don’t have to accept it. That’s why I refuse to take corporate PAC money and why I’m fighting for fair maps and fair elections. Texans deserve a government that responds to their needs––not one that’s captured by the special interests with the biggest checks. I’m honored to be endorsed by End Citizens United, a group that’s been on the front lines of this fight.”

In Congress, Rep. Casar has been an outspoken advocate for anti-corruption reforms. He is a co-sponsor of the Freedom to Vote Act, which would end partisan gerrymandering, expand ballot access, and crack down on dark money in politics. He supports the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to restore the full power of the Voting Rights Act. He also co-sponsor the Democracy for All Amendment, which strikes at the heart of the Citizens United decision by affirming that Congress and the states can set commonsense limits on political spending.
