End Citizens United Endorses State Sen. Ghazala Hashmi for Virginia Lt. Governor

End Citizens United (ECU), one of the nation’s leading anti-corruption organizations, today endorsed State Senator Ghazala Hashmi for lieutenant governor of Virginia. Hashmi has a strong legislative record of defending Virginians' rights and freedoms and is deeply committed to protecting every voice in our democracy.

“With Virginians feeling the devastating impacts of a president who puts billionaires over people, it’s time to elect a pro-democracy champion like Ghazala Hashmi, who has the track record to prove she will always stand up to protect Virginia," said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “She understands that by shining a light on the money infiltrating our politics and holding elected officials to strong ethical standards, we can restore trust in our political system and put power back in the hands of the people. End Citizens United is proud to endorse her and we look forward to helping her win this November.”

“In my years of experience as a state Senator, I have defended Virginians’ rights and freedoms and fought back against the Trump administration’s attacks on my state," said Sen. Ghazala Hashmi. “Virginia deserves new leaders who will always uphold their values, call out the corruption in Washington hurting Virginia jobs and economy, and focus on the issues that matter most—from fully funding our public schools to making health care more affordable. I am thankful for End Citizens United’s work to fight corruption and protect fair elections, and I am proud to receive their endorsement.”

As state senator, Ghazala Hashmi focused on protecting Virginians’ livelihoods—from helping draft a constitutional amendment protecting abortion rights to writing the plan to protect Medicaid in Virginia. Hashmi believes in good government reforms to fix our broken campaign finance system, including banning political candidates from using campaign funds for personal use. As lieutenant governor, she will continue to push back hard on the Trump administration and will work with anyone to address the issues that Virginians most care about.
