End Citizens United Files Ethics Complaint Against Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo

End Citizens United (ECU), one the nation’s leading anti-corruption organizations, today filed an ethics complaint with the Nevada Commission on Ethics against Governor Joe Lombardo.

The complaint outlines multiple instances in which Governor Lombardo used official state social media accounts to repost, tag, and amplify campaign-related content for his political benefit. Nevada law expressly prohibits elected officials from using public resources for political purposes or leveraging the powers of their office to gain electoral advantage.

Governor Lombardo has previously been sanctioned by the Nevada Commission on Ethics for using official resources to advance campaign-related activity during the 2022 gubernatorial campaign. He is, or reasonably should be, fully aware of the state’s statutes and the Commission’s guidance restricting the use of official social media accounts for private, political gain.

“Governor Lombardo has already been made fully aware that this behavior is not allowed, yet he continues to brazenly repeat it. He either thinks the rules don’t apply to him or that he’s above the law,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Using taxpayer-funded government accounts to boost his political campaign is unethical and a violation of the public trust. Nevadans deserve a governor who follows the rules, not one who exploits public resources to help himself win an election.”

Governor Lombardo’s actions include using his official “Lombardo Outreach” (@LombardoSNV) account to:

  • Repost a political message from his own political action committee about his polling position (April 23, 2025);

  • Tag his personal campaign account (@JoeLombardoNV) in posts about official state events, allowing him to convert official events into campaign promotion (September 19, 2025);

  • Tag his campaign account in an event honoring public safety officers, blurring the lines between governing and campaigning (September 19, 2025).
