End Citizens United Blasts SCOTUS Decision in Louisiana v. Callais

End Citizens United (ECU) // Let America Vote (LAV) Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled to gut Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act:

"The Supreme Court’s extremist right-wing majority struck another devastating blow to the Voting Rights Act in Lousiana v. Callais, dismantling one of the nation’s most important tools for challenging racial discrimination in our elections. With this ruling, the Court has made it nearly impossible for voters to fight back when politicians manipulate maps and election rules to silence communities of color.

“For decades, the Voting Rights Act has been a force for good in this country, protecting Americans from racial discrimination at the ballot box. But after years of attacks from the right, that landmark law has been hollowed out piece by piece. Today’s ruling is the latest step in that effort to weaken protections. Republicans have been clear that higher participation in our democracy threatens their political power, and decisions like this only embolden them in their efforts to silence voters instead of earning their support. End Citizens United will not give up the fight and will continue its work to protect the freedom to vote and to hold accountable those who threaten it.”
