End Citizens United Congratulates Governor-Elect Abigail Spanberger on Historic Win in Virginia
End Citizens United (ECU) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement celebrating Abigail Spanberger’s victory in Virginia’s gubernatorial race and her becoming the Commonwealth's first woman governor:
“Congratulations to Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger on her historic and well-earned victory. Spanberger has spent her career championing working families over special interests, challenging the corrosive influence of Big Money in politics, and earning a reputation as a principled fighter against corruption.
“End Citizens United is proud to have endorsed and supported her campaign since last year. Throughout the election, she placed the voices of everyday Virginians above corporations that seek to control political outcomes. We look forward to seeing her bring this bold, people-first leadership to Richmond.”
ECU first backed Spanberger in her successful 2018 bid for the U.S. House, where she joined a historic class of lawmakers elected on a platform of defending working families, expanding voting rights, and putting everyday Americans ahead of special interests. In Congress, she led the fight to ban Members of Congress and their families from trading individual stocks and twice cosponsored the For the People Act (H.R. 1), a landmark anti-corruption bill designed to root out Big Money in politics and strengthen democracy.
