End Citizens United Endorses Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist for Michigan Secretary of State
End Citizens United (ECU), a leading national anti-corruption organization, today endorsed Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist for Michigan Secretary of State. Gilchrist is refusing to accept corporate PAC money and running a campaign focused on protecting the freedom to vote and shining a light on dark money in Michigan politics.
“Lt. Governor Gilchrist understands that Michigan is on the front lines in the fight for free and fair elections,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “He refuses corporate PAC money because he knows that when billionaires and special interests dominate politics, everyday voters lose their voice. Donald Trump and his congressional allies are pushing dangerous new restrictions on voting rights while dark money continues to flood our elections. Michigan needs a Secretary of State who will protect the freedom to vote, and stand up to those trying to undermine our democracy. We are proud to endorse Lieutenant Governor Gilchrist and look forward to helping him win.”
“I’m proud to have the support of End Citizens United,” said Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II. “For too long, dark money and special interests have distorted our politics and drowned out the voices of everyday people. That’s why I don’t take a dime of corporate PAC money. Organizations like End Citizens United are leading the fight to shine a light on the flood of secret money in our elections and demand accountability from those in power. As Secretary of State, I’ll work to strengthen transparency in campaign finance, defend the sacred right to vote, and protect our elections. Government should work for the people it serves — not wealthy special interests trying to buy influence behind closed doors. Together, we will build a more transparent democracy where every Michigander’s voice matters and our institutions deliver real results for working families.”
Lieutenant Governor Gilchrist will fight corruption, combat dark money in politics, and stand up to the Trump administration’s dangerous attacks on voting rights. As Secretary of State, he plans to push for stronger transparency laws to shine a light on undisclosed money in Michigan elections, protect Michiganders’ personal voter information, and modernize state services.
