ECU Celebrates Rep. Adelita Grijalva’s Long-Overdue Swearing-In After Unprecedented GOP Obstruction

WASHINGTON, DC — Tiffany Muller, president of End Citizens United, issued the following statement in response to the long-overdue swearing-in of Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva (AZ-07) after 50 days of partisan obstruction by Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson.

“Following more than seven weeks of a partisan power grab, Congresswoman Grijalva can finally take her rightful seat in Congress. Speaker Johnson’s blockade left an entire district voiceless, all in service of covering up Donald Trump’s decades-long friendship with a serial predator.

“Despite this morally reprehensible obstruction, Grijalva showed up for work weeks ago, working tirelessly for her constituents and using her platform to speak out against the Republican-led effort to drive up health care premiums for tens of millions of Americans to fund tax breaks for billionaire donors and corporations. ECU proudly stands with her as she officially begins her term, where she will be a fearless voice for reform and a relentless advocate against corruption in Washington.”

ECU proudly endorsed Congresswoman Grijalva in her special election bid to represent Arizona’s 7th congressional district—a race she won decisively without taking a cent of corporate PAC money. Grijalva has also thrown her support behind ECU’s “Unrig Washington” initiative, joining more than 100 Democratic congressional candidates committed to restoring trust and accountability in government. The nationwide effort champions three key reforms: banning congressional stock trading, rejecting corporate PAC money, and cracking down on dark money in politics.

Next Tuesday, November 18, Congresswoman Grijalva will speak at a public virtual town hall alongside ECU President Tiffany Muller and Tennessee congressional candidate Aftyn Behn.
