ECU Endorses Rep. Golden in ME-02 Primary
End Citizens United (ECU), one of the nation’s leading anti-corruption organizations, announced its endorsement of Congressman Jared Golden in the primary race for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District.
ECU has been one of Golden’s earliest and strongest supporters since his very first run for Congress in the 2018 election cycle, and is reaffirming its commitment to stand with him as he continues his fight to root out corruption in Washington and make government accountable to the people.
“By rejecting corporate PAC money and leading the fight for real anti-corruption reforms, Congressman Golden has proven he can’t be bought and that he will always put the people of Maine first,” said ECU President Tiffany Muller. “He’s a rare example of independence and integrity, consistently putting service to his constituents above the demands of Washington politics. There’s no stronger voice for reform in the state, and no one better suited to continue representing this district. We’ll do everything we can to help him win.”
Golden has consistently been at the forefront of the reform movement in Congress. From day one, he has rejected corporate PAC money, making clear that his decisions are guided by the interests of Maine families––not corporate special interests or wealthy donors. In Washington, his efforts to combat corruption are second to none. He has introduced and championed legislation designed to eliminate the influence of Big Money over elected officials and put working families at the center of the decision-making in Congress.
Golden’s record demonstrates a clear commitment to accountability and reform. Below is an overview of his efforts to combat corruption:
Unrig Washington: reiterated his support for a bold reform agenda centered on banning congressional stock trading, rejecting corporate PAC money, and cracking down on dark money.
Freedom to Vote Act: cosponsored this sweeping anti-corruption, voting rights, and ethics bill. (An earlier version of the bill was named For the People Act)
Trust in Congress Act: led bipartisan efforts to ban members of Congress from owning and trading stocks.
Crack down on Dark Money Act: introduced legislation to shine a light on dark money so that Americans can see who’s trying to influence their votes.
Ban Corporate PACs Act: introduced legislation to eliminate corporate PACs from influencing our elections all together.
Stop Foreign Payoffs Act: introduced a legislation to prevent senior government officials from holding investments in or receiving compensation from foreign entities while in office.
Block Foreign-Funded Political Ads Act: introduced legislation to protect U.S. elections by preventing foreign nationals, governments, and organizations from funding political advertisements on digital platforms.
Foreign-Funded Political Ads Act: introduced legislation requiring online ad sellers to use payment verification tools to ensure political ads are purchased from U.S. sources.
The Lifetime Lobbying Ban Act: introduced legislation to permanently bar former members of Congress from becoming federal lobbyists.
No CORRUPTION Act: introduced legislation to eliminate taxpayer-funded pensions for members of Congress convicted of corruption-related felonies.
Democracy for All Amendment: cosponsored a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United, distinguish between corporations and people, limit corporate campaign spending, and allow states to enact public campaign financing systems.
