End Citizens United Endorses State Senator Robert Peters for Congress

Peters is rejecting corporate PAC money, committed to ending dark money, and supports banning congressional stock trading

End Citizens United (ECU), a leading national anti-corruption organization, today endorsed State Senator Robert Peters for Illinois’ 2nd Congressional District. Peters has joined ECU’s Unrig Washington campaign, which requires candidates to reject corporate PAC money, commit to ending dark money, and support a ban on congressional stock trading.

“From his early work expanding youth voter participation to his leadership in the Illinois State Senate, Robert Peters has built a career fighting for working families,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “He understands the everyday challenges families in the district face and the frustration that comes from being ignored by Washington. By refusing to take corporate PAC money and committing to real ethics reforms, he is showing the kind of leadership it will take to restore accountability and deliver results for working people. We’re proud to endorse State Senator Peters for Congress and we look forward to helping him win.”

“As right wing super PACs engage in deceptive practices to try to buy this seat, the endorsement of ECU feels particularly important,” said Illinois State Senator Robert Peters. “I'm grateful to have earned their support as we work together to defend our very democracy.”

As a state legislator, Peters has backed efforts to raise the minimum wage, remove grocery sales taxes, and lower health coverage costs through the Illinois Healthcare Protection Act. For the past two terms, he has chaired the Committee on Labor, where he consistently champions the working class. Peters has also shown his commitment to three key ethics reforms by joining Unrig Washington: rejecting corporate PAC money, supporting a ban on congressional stock trading, and cracking down on dark money in politics.
