PRESS RELEASE

End Citizens United Endorses State Auditor Matt Dunlap in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District

End Citizens United (ECU), a leading national anti-corruption organization, today endorsed State Auditor Matt Dunlap in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District. Dunlap is part of ECU’s Unrig Washington program for candidates who reject corporate PAC money, support a ban on congressional stock trading, and work to end dark money in politics.

“Matt Dunlap knows how to fight corruption and has the record to prove it. From rooting out fraud and waste as Maine’s State Auditor to consistently championing accountability in public office, he has never backed down from a fight,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “He understands that corruption isn't just a political problem — it's why Mainers are getting squeezed on costs for every single basic necessity. He’s refusing corporate PAC money to show voters that he is only accountable to them, not to any Big Money interest. We are proud to endorse Matt Dunlap and look forward to helping him beat Paul LePage in November.”

“Our government is working for the lobbyists and corporate donors who write the laws — and Mainers pay the price in higher costs on everything from groceries to prescriptions,” said Maine State Auditor Matt Dunlap. “I’ve taken on politicians in both parties to stop corruption, protect taxpayers, and root out real waste and fraud, and I’ll do the same in Congress: get corporate money out of politics, ban congressional stock trading, and hold Big Pharma and the corporations ripping us off accountable. I’m grateful for End Citizens United’s endorsement and their partnership in this fight.”

Matt Dunlap has worked to defend voters and hold corporate actors accountable as Maine State Auditor and previously as Secretary of State. During the first Trump administration, he won a lawsuit that led to the termination of a fraudulent, politically-motivated “election integrity” commission that the president had attempted to create. Dunlap has joined ECU’s Unrig Washington program, alongside over 260 Democratic candidates in rejecting corporate PAC money, supporting a ban on congressional stock trading, and cracking down on dark money in politics.
