ICYMI: 93% Say Corruption in Government is a Serious Problem in New Poll

A new national tracking poll commissioned by ECU Education Fund found that rising costs and corruption rank highest among voter concerns. The first survey, conducted by YouGov between June 11-17, also polled registered voters on their support for banning corporate PACs and their levels of trust in Democrats versus Republicans.

Key takeaways include:

  1. 93% say corruption in government is a serious problem, including 65% who call it “very serious.”

  2. Banning corporate PACs from giving to campaigns is broadly popular across the ideological spectrum. From liberals (79%) to Trump voters (54%), majorities of voters say they’d be more likely to back a candidate who supports it.

  3. Democrats and Republicans are trusted equally on cleaning up corruption, at 35% each, while 30% trust neither. This means Democrats haven’t earned the advantage this issue should hand them, and they have a unique opportunity to close that gap considering that nearly 30% trust neither party.

When asked to indicate their top three issues, 69% of poll respondents selected “Economy and rising costs” and 49% selected “Corruption in Washington,” followed by “Threats to democracy and elections” at 47%. The survey also found that voters are significantly more likely to back a candidate who supports banning congressional stock trading and requiring more disclosure of political donor information.

This tracking poll includes data and demographic crosstabs from battleground states Michigan, Ohio, and Georgia. National and state-level surveys will occur monthly for the remainder of the 2026 election cycle, with national polls taking place twice in September and October. The project serves as a resource to show trends in voter sentiment around key issues like corruption and the cost of living.

This poll shows that elected officials who reject corporate PAC money, support policies like a ban on stock trading, and push for more donor transparency aren’t just doing the right thing — they're meeting the electorate where it is.
