PRESS RELEASE

ECU Congratulates Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson on Winning the Primary for Governor

End Citizens United (ECU) President Tiffany Muller issued the following statement congratulating ECU-endorsed Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson on winning the Democratic primary in the gubernatorial race:

“Congratulations to Secretary Benson on winning her primary. Voters across Michigan know that she will always champion their interests, whether making the state’s elections the most secure and accessible in the nation or taking on powerful industries to help lower costs for working families. She’s refusing to take a dime of corporate PAC money because she has seen how special interests can pull strings and influence votes in Lansing. We’re proud to support Secretary Benson and look forward to working with her to keep fighting corruption when she becomes Governor.”

ECU endorsed Secretary Benson the day after she announced her candidacy for Governor of Michigan. Benson has championed reforms across Michigan that increase access to the ballot box, such as implementing no excuse-absentee voting, same-day registration, and automatic and online voter registration. In March 2021, Benson and ECU President Tiffany Muller testified before the U.S. Senate Rules Committee in support of the For the People Act (H.R.1/S.1), landmark legislation that would have increased voting access and cracked down on Big Money in elections.
