Slotkin connects corruption in Washington to rising costs and calls for greater accountability

More than 100 Missourians joined the latest stop of Stand Up America and End Citizens United’s national tour

St. Louis, MO — Today, Senator Elissa Slotkin joined End Citizens United (ECU) and Stand Up America’s (SUA) “Kick Out Corruption” national tour in St. Louis, where over 100 Missourians gathered for a conversation about how corruption in Washington is contributing to higher costs for working families and what can be done to fight back.

In a conversation with ECU President Tiffany Muller and SUA Executive Director Christina Harvey, Senator Slotkin drew a direct line between corruption and the costs hitting American families, from the health care crisis to unjustifiably expensive wars abroad. The senator also discussed how voters can demand accountability from their elected officials, before taking questions directly from Missourians.

Rachel D’Souza, a small-business owner and candidate for Missouri’s 79th District in the State House, encouraged attendees to get involved in the anti-corruption fight.

"The level of corruption we're seeing from this administration is unprecedented, and Americans are already paying the price. Costs are up while the Trump family makes billions. And it’s a problem that goes way beyond just Donald Trump,” said Senator Slotkin. “We should ban Corporate PACs. Ban Members of Congress from insider trading. Voters left, right and center agree, and they want someone to do something about it. I was proud to join the Kick Out Corruption Tour in St. Louis to hear directly from Missourians and talk about how we do just that."

The energy in the room tonight showed just how ready people are for leaders who will fight to make that a reality.”

As a leading voice for reform in Congress, she has co-sponsored legislation like the Ban Corporate PACs Act and the End Crypto Corruption Act. She leads by example as a participant in ECU’s Unrig Washington, a program in which over 275 Democratic candidates are rejecting corporate PAC money, backing a ban on congressional stock trading, and working to end dark money in politics.

The Kick Out Corruption Tour launched earlier this summer in Arizona with Senator Mark Kelly, and will continue with Maryland Governor Wes Moore in October. With midterms in full swing and 2028 not far ahead, the tour is bringing together national Democratic leaders and voters for conversations about how to combat the unprecedented corruption that has defined the past year.
