PRESS RELEASE

End Citizens United Endorses Slate of Pro-Democracy Governors for Reelection

End Citizens United (ECU), a leading national anti-corruption organization, today endorsed a slate of six pro-democracy governors for reelection.

The list of governors includes:

  • Illinois Governor JB Pritzker

  • Maryland Governor Wes Moore

  • Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey

  • New York Governor Kathy Hochul

  • Oregon Governor Tina Kotek

  • Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro

“At a time when people are being squeezed economically and voting rights are under attack, these governors are fighting for accountability, fairness, and a government that works for the people,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “They are on the front lines of pushing back against the Trump administration’s reckless agenda that is driving up costs on everyday essentials while undermining fundamental freedoms. These leaders are proving that government can still fight for working people and deliver relief. We’re proud to endorse them and we look forward to supporting their campaigns.”

“Out-of-control dark money spending has become a stain on our democracy,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “While Trump and MAGA politicians continue to kowtow to shady special interest groups, I am focused on delivering what working families actually need: lower costs, economic opportunity, and a healthy democracy. I am honored to be endorsed by End Citizens United.”

“Marylanders and people around the country are tired of politicians taking away voters’ power and using their offices to enrich themselves,” said Maryland Governor Wes Moore. “That's why I’ve made reforms to restore voting rights and stop politicians from using their offices as get-rich-quick schemes. I’m grateful to be endorsed by End Citizens United and to work with them to help root out our corruption.”

“I am honored to have the endorsement of End Citizens United. Our elections belong to the people, and we need to protect the integrity of our political process and ensure that every voice is heard,” said Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey. “It is essential that our government prioritizes its constituents and working families, not the rich and powerful.”

“I’m honored to have the backing of End Citizens United in our fight to protect democracy and ensure that everyday New Yorkers, not special interests, have a voice in our elections,” said Governor Kathy Hochul. “Since taking office, I’ve worked to strengthen New York’s public campaign finance system and to defend reforms that empower small-dollar donors. I look forward to continuing our partnership in building a fairer and more transparent political process that gives every New Yorker a voice.”

“I’ve spent my career fighting for people who don’t have a lobbyist or a PAC in their corner,” Oregon Governor Tina Kotek said. “The premise of our democracy is one person, one vote — not one dollar, one vote. End Citizens United is doing the hard work of making that promise real, and I'm proud to have their support.”

The six governors in this slate support overturning Citizens United. They have enacted policies that increased transparency and accountability, from launching public campaign financing programs to imposing limits on individual and PAC contributions. During the Trump administration’s attempts to silence voters, these governors have defended their constituents and fought for the freedom to vote. Each has been a champion of democracy and has built a strong track record of standing up for the interests of everyday people in their states.
