Recap: ECU Josh Turek for Iowa Host Roundtable in Des Moines

Des Moines, IA — End Citizens United (ECU), a leading national anti-corruption organization, and Josh Turek for Iowa hosted a roundtable with Iowans to discuss the fight against Washington corruption and why self-dealing politicians like Ashley Hinson have no place in the U.S. Senate.

ECU President Tiffany Muller led the conversation with seven community members, who shared how corruption in Washington has impacted their lives. They discussed how self-dealing politicians like Ashley Hinson have repeatedly voted to hike costs on everything from health care to gas — all while raking in millions from the corporate PACs, billionaires, and big corporations who benefit. Meanwhile, despite becoming up to 10x wealthier since joining Congress and quietly holding up to $5 million in insurance stock, Hinson wasted more than $50,000 in taxpayer dollars to pay for her “luxury” D.C. apartment. The roundtable discussed the importance of sending a true champion for working class Iowans — not a multi-millionaire who fights for billionaires and big corporations — to the U.S. Senate.

“Corporate greed is why prices keep going up, and corruption in DC explains why politicians are doing nothing about it,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Just look at Ashley Hinson — her net worth has grown as much as tenfold since she got to Congress, while the Iowans she represents keep falling further behind. What I heard at our roundtable today is that Iowans are done with this rigged system and ready to elect new leadership. They’re supporting Josh Turek because he is demonstrating his integrity, from rejecting corporate PAC dollars to making reform the centerpiece of his platform. They believe in him to fight for an accountable government that finally works to lower costs and bring relief to working people.”

End Citizens United endorsed Rep. Turek in June. Turek is also part of ECU’s Unrig Washington program to highlight his commitment to rejecting corporate PAC money, supporting a ban on congressional stock trading and ownership, and working to get dark money out of elections.
