PRESS RELEASE

End Citizens United Endorses Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes for Reelection

End Citizens United (ECU), a leading national anti-corruption organization, today endorsed Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes for reelection. Fontes has a strong record of defending access to the ballot box and standing up to attacks on the voting process.

“Secretary of State Adrian Fontes is on the front lines of protecting Arizonans’ right to vote against Donald Trump’s unconstitutional attacks on the democratic process,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “As corrupt politicians at the highest levels of government seek to disenfranchise voters, his experience and leadership is critically important. We are proud to endorse Secretary Fontes and look forward to helping him get reelected in November.”

“I’m thankful for the endorsement of End Citizens United,” said Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes. “Donald Trump and his allies want to silence our vote because they know Arizonans are ready to hold them accountable. I’ve challenged their wrongful attempts to restrict mail voting and refused to hand over Arizona’s voter rolls because the federal government is not in charge of our elections. It’s an honor to fight for these principles and defend lawful elections.”

Secretary of State Fontes has stood up to President Trump’s Department of Justice as it demands access to state voter rolls and, alongside leaders of 23 other states, sued the Trump administration over its threats to mail voting and voter data. As Maricopa County Recorder, Fontes revolutionized a broken, outdated, and unjust voting system by making elections more accessible and secure. The infrastructure he put in place helped increase registered voters in the county by 500,000 people, leading to record turnout in the 2020 elections.

During his first bid for Secretary of State in 2022, ECU endorsed Fontes as part of its Democracy Defenders program. ECU President Tiffany Muller campaigned for Fontes, and in the final weeks of the election, ECU ran a $200,000 mail program to help elect him.
