PRESS RELEASE

End Citizens United Endorses Four Unrig Washington Candidates

End Citizens United (ECU), a leading national anti-corruption organization, today endorsed four congressional candidates who have joined the Unrig Washington program. Participating in Unrig Washington involves rejecting corporate PAC money, supporting a ban on congressional stock trading, and committing to help get dark money out of politics.

The endorsed candidates include:

  • Dwayne Romero (CO-03)

  • Don Coover (KS-02)

  • Callie Barr (MI-01)

  • Katy Padilla Stout (TX-23)

“It’s clear to everyone that Congress is serving nobody except its biggest corporate donors,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Americans are tired of seeing costs go up while their elected officials collect campaign checks from the very same special interests that are responsible for price gouging. Reform is long overdue, and we’re proud to support these four leaders who have made real commitments to rejecting corporate PAC money and backing an accountability agenda.”

“I’m grateful for the endorsement of End Citizens United,” said Dwayne Romero. “Government should be about serving the people, not protecting billionaires and giant corporations. But our system today is broken. Politicians in Washington take money from special interests, then they turn around and hand tax breaks and favors to those same groups at the expense of working people. It’s time to crack down on the corruption that has driven up costs and to fight for an economy that works for everyday Coloradans.”

“I'm honored to be endorsed by End Citizens United. Gas, groceries, and health care are all getting more expensive because of corruption in Washington,” said Don Coover. “Corporate money in politics is stopping Congress from making any progress on lowering prices. Our government needs to be accountable to working people, not the wealthiest donors at the top. That’s why I have refused corporate PAC money in my campaign."

“Washington isn’t responsive to the people because corporate interests are buying vast amounts of influence,” said Callie Barr. “Michiganders deserve better than a representative who will take anybody’s money. I’m running to change the pay-to-play culture in government and build a system that answers to everyday people instead of the largest check. I’m proud to be endorsed by End Citizens United in this fight.”

“Texans are fed up with unaffordable costs, and we can all see that Republicans in Congress are sitting on their hands while corporations keep hiking prices,” said Katy Padilla Stout. “Getting money out of politics is the first step toward bringing down costs and stopping corporate greed. I won’t take corporate PAC money because I want people in this district to know that I’m accountable only to them. It’s an honor to be endorsed by End Citizens United and to have their support in taking on corruption.”
