Recap: End Citizens United, Josh Turek Rally Against Corruption

Cedar Rapids, IA — End Citizens United and Josh Turek held an event focused on rooting out corruption. Supporters gathered to hear about the reform agenda Turek is championing in this final push toward Election Day.

“Iowans have hit their breaking point with corruption in Washington, and on Tuesday, they’ll have the chance to do something about it,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Working families know they’re paying the price for the self-serving decisions of politicians. They’re tired of facing higher bills for groceries, gas, health care, and everything else while Ashley Hinson’s corporate donors rake in more profits. We were honored to support Josh Turek during the final stretch because he’ll help put an end to the pay-to-play corruption in Congress.”

“Everywhere I go, I hear that Iowans are struggling, and I know what that’s like because I’ve been there. For far too long, corrupt politicians like Ashley Hinson have used their position to enrich themselves, big corporations, special interests, and billionaire donors instead of serving their constituents back home,” said U.S. Senate candidate Josh Turek. “In the U.S. Senate, I’ll be a senator for all Iowans, not the billionaires and large corporations, because it’s working-class families that pay the price for Washington’s corruption.”

ECU President Tiffany Muller joined the event to call out Rep. Ashley Hinson for her long record of serving her donors over Iowa families. That includes taking over $2 million in corporate PAC donations, holding up to $5 million in private insurance stocks after promising to sell them, spending $200,000 going on lavish trips and getting up to $8 million richer while voting to cut health care and raise prices on working class Iowans. Rep. Hinson has voted with her donors time and again, even when it raises costs and puts her own constituents at risk.

Meanwhile, Turek’s agenda would crack down on that kind of corruption. He has refused to take corporate PAC money throughout this race, along with supporting a ban on congressional stock trading and committing to help get dark money out of elections as part of the Unrig Washington agenda. During the event, Turek and Muller made the case that this race is between a corporate puppet and a proven fighter for working families.
