PRESS RELEASE

ECU Congratulates No Corporate PAC Candidate James Talarico on Historic Senate Win in Texas

End Citizens United (ECU) President Tiffany Muller issued the following statement celebrating ECU-endorsed Senator-elect James Talarico’s historic victory in Texas:

“Congratulations to Senator-elect James Talarico on a massive win that sends an undeniable message across Texas and the entire nation. He proved that when you prioritize anti-corruption, even the reddest states are flippable. Voters saw the clear difference between his reform agenda and the legacy of Republican corruption that has left working people to fend for themselves. He rejected corporate PAC money alongside over 300 Democrats who joined Unrig Washington, never turned down an opportunity to expose corporate and billionaire greed, and pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the cycle. We can't wait to work with him in the Senate.”

Senator-elect James Talarico inspired a people-powered movement across Texas by framing Ken Paxton as corrupt, which ECU backed up by adding Paxton to its Most Corrupt Politicians List. Senator-elect Talarico had the endorsement of ECU and joined the Unrig Washington program, alongside more than 300 Democratic candidates committed to rejecting corporate PAC money, supporting a ban on congressional stock trading, and cracking down on dark money in politics.

Senator-elect Talarico recognized that Texans are being squeezed by higher costs and connected that lived reality to corruption in Washington. He has said that his first action in Congress would be to pursue an anti-corruption package that bans corporate PACs, bans partisan gerrymandering, and increases transparency.
